The guide details pre-configuration steps for enrolling managers first, with the Hardware security profile set to Manager. It explains setting up InTouch Installations, enrolling managers' faces, and configuring the clock for Touch Free ID. Employee enrollment follows manager setup, with biometric consent and quality scan requirements. Modes include Identification (Always On or User-Initiated) and Biometric (Identification or Verification). Enrollment tips cover glasses, headwear, mounting height, and lighting. Basic troubleshooting includes maintenance mode access, device restart, and communication tests.
Pre-configuration Steps - Enroll Managers First on Clock
Managers must first be assigned the Hardware security profile of Manager in the Inova system. This feature is in the employee's main information section under Hardware settings. Change the setting from Employee to Manager.
If this is your first Touch Free ID Setup or the Managers have no face enrolled, go to InTouch Installations and check the following:
- Menu > Settings > System > InTouch Installations
- Click the Edit Middleware Installation icon
- Click the TERMINAL button
- Enable Allow Keyboard For Badge Entry
- Select from the drop-down for Verify Finger/Face Scan For:
- Enrolled Employees Only (will only verify if they have a face template; otherwise, allows punch with badge if no face template) or
- Everyone (requires a face template to punch; if it does not have a face template, it will give an error, and must enroll in biometrics)
- Set the Verify Threshold to Normal.
- Make sure Store Scans is checked.
- Set the Manager Default action to Log in to Manager.
- Identification mode to User Initiated (this will require the user to touch a soft key on the clock before scanning the face).
Enroll Managers
- Have the manager touch the 'Manager Login' button.
- Enter the badge and press Enter.
- Enter the manager password (9999) and press Enter.
- Touch enroll biometrics.
- Follow on-screen prompts and agree to biometric consent to enroll biometrics.
- Position Face
Once all managers have face enrolled, follow the directions below if you want employees to just walk up to the clock and punch by having the Touch Free ID Always on. Keep in mind that this will disable all soft keys, and the clock will only be usable for punching and enrolling.
- Go back to the menu: Settings > System > InTouch Installations
- Uncheck Allow Keyboard for Badge Entry
- Set Verify Biometrics for Everyone.
- Set the Manager Default Action to Login to Manager Mode so the manager can walk up and get into manager mode to enroll future employees.
- Make sure the Default Action is set to Simple Punch.
- Click Save in the upper right-hand corner.
Enroll Employees
- Tap Manager Login
- Select a method to choose the employee by Entering the Badge ID, Searching for employee or Browsing the employee directory
- After selecting the employee, the clock will display a biometric consent statement. Scroll through the statement and tap Accept.
- Follow on-screen prompts to enroll the employee. Employees will position themselves so that their faces are shown on the screen.
- The device will display Good Scan, then press Enter. A “Good” capture scan (Quality score >60) is required to support identification mode.
- A fair score of 40-59 can be accepted but will require badge ID entry to authenticate.
- A duplicate error message is displayed if the employee is already enrolled.
- You can then Enroll Another Employee.
Modes
Identification Mode
- Always On: If you want employees to just walk up to the clock and punch set the Identification mode to Always On (please note that this hides all soft keys so the clock can only be sued for punching or enrolling and requires the default action to be simple punch. Do not do this if this is your first Touch Free ID setup or if managers do not have a face enrolled.
- User-Initiated: Requires an employee to interact with the device by swiping their badge or tapping a soft key, followed by a quick scan to confirm their identity. Use when employees will do more than a simple punch.
Biometric Mode
- Identification: identifies the employee by face; the employee just scan face to punch
- Verification: requires badge swipe or entry, then scans face to verify that the face belongs to the person with that badge number
Verify Biometrics
- Everyone: All employees will be required to have a facial scan.
- Enrolled Employees only: Only enrolled employees require a facial scan.
Enrollment Tips
- Glasses – Employees who always wear glasses may enroll with glasses on. Recommend removing glasses for enrollment for those who don’t always wear glasses. Do not wear glasses with reflective lenses or face shields during enrollment.
- Recommend removing headwear during enrollment, and ensure headwear does not cover eyebrows.
- Ensure the face between the chin and just above the eyebrows is not obstructed by bangs, face masks, handkerchiefs, etc.
- Testing has shown no issues with facial hair or changes in facial hair.
- The installation guide shows the recommended mounting height. To meet ADA requirements for wheelchair-user access to the card reader and the top of the touchscreen, the top mounting screws for the InTouch DX must be 45 3/8 inches above the floor or lower, which ensures that all user features are at a maximum height of 48 inches.
- When the time clock's top mounting screws are at this height, the TouchFree ID device will support facial recognition for most users who are 4 feet 5 inches to 6 feet 1 inch.
- Users taller than 6 feet 1 inch might need to bend down slightly to obtain a proper facial scan.
- The TouchFree ID has an infrared and visible light camera, so it will work in the dark. Generally, the clock should be mounted where there isn’t too much glare on the display. The best practice is to install the clock so that the employee’s face, the clock display, and the camera are not in direct sunlight.
