UKG Performance Review Component Configuration

This article provides instructions on creating Performance Review components. Before building a Review Profile, components that will be used in the Review process will need to be configured: Ratings to set evaluation scales, Reasons to define review purposes, Core Values reflecting company principles, Competencies outlining skills and behaviors, Goals specifying employee objectives, and Weights to assign impact percentages to components.

 
 

Security Profile Settings

Before configuring any reviews, you must ensure your users have the proper permissions. 
Go to Settings > Profiles/Policies > Security and select the specific security profile to edit.
 
1. HR Tab (Employee Management Section) Enables access for Administrators and Managers to view or edit their employees' profiles and reviews.
  • Locate Performance Reviews and set the permissions to View, Edit, Add, and Delete
    Please note: You can also enable additional options here, such as Manage For All (full access regardless of manager status) or View Manager Instructions.
  • Locate Profiles and set the permissions to View or View/Edit. This allows users to assign performance review profiles to employee accounts.
  • Locate Performance Management Fuctions and check to allow Performance Mass Finalize. 
2. HR Tab (Performance Section) Enables access for Administrators to configure the core components of the performance review.
  • Locate the specific settings you need to configure, such as Competencies, Core Values, Goals, Ratings, Reasons, and Review Profiles.
  • Check the boxes for View, Edit, Add, and Delete to give the user full configuration rights for these items.
3. ESS Tab (Tools & Documents Section) Enables access for Employees to view and interact with their own reviews.
  • Check the box for My Performance Reviews. This gives Employees access to their reviews under My Info > My Career > Performance > Performance Reviews.

Configuring Core Components (Prerequisites)

Before building a Review Profile in either tool (Legacy or Wizard), you must first configure the individual components that will be used in the evaluation.
 
1. Configure Workflow Workflows allow to you determine the steps a review will take when completing an evaluation. To create your workflow, see the UKG Workflows article.
 
The following additional components should be created, as well:
Please note: You will only need to create the components that will be used in your process. If, for example, you will not be using Company Goals in the evaluation, they will not need to be created. 
 
1. Configure Ratings: Ratings establish the scale used to evaluate the employees.
  • Go to Settings > HR Setup > Performance Review > Ratings.
  • Click Add New. Enter a Rating Name and select a Method (Value, Range, or No Value).
  • Enter the corresponding numeric value.
  • Check the boxes under Used In to designate where this rating applies (Final Grade, Competencies, Core Values, Goals). Click Save.
2. Configure Reasons: Reasons define why the review is taking place (e.g., "Routine" or "Annual").
  • Go to Settings > HR Setup > Performance Review > Reasons.
  • Click Add New. Enter a Review Reason name and a Description. Click Save.
3. Configure Core Values: Core Values reflect the guiding principles of your company, such as vision and employee attitude.
  • Go to Settings > HR Setup > Performance Review > Core Values.
  • Click Add New. Enter the Core Value name and a brief Description. Click Save.
4. Configure Competencies: Competencies define special skills, company vision, and expected behaviors
  • Go to Settings > HR Setup > Performance Review > Competencies.
  • Click Add New. Enter a Competency Name and Description. Click Save.

    Please note: The Skills section will not be brought into the Performance Review.

5. Configure Goals: Goals measure specific objectives an employee is expected to achieve.
  • Go to Settings > HR Setup > Performance Review > Goals.
  • Click Add New. Enter a Goal Name and Description.
  • Specify the Company Goal Effective From/To Dates to determine when the goal is active.
  • Check the box for Add To Performance Review to ensure it can be included in the review. Click Save.

    Please note: The Goals created in this section are Company Goals. For additional information on Company and Personal Goals, see the UKG Performance Development Admin Guide.

Please note: You must choose only one configuration method (the Legacy Review Profile configuration OR the Performance Review Wizard configuration) to build your profile. Do not use both processes simultaneously, as doing so can produce errors or unreliable results.
